Ty Roxy first album 音楽 (Music) on CD. Limited edition of 300 copies includes three bonus tracks: How Long, Kramer vs. Kramer and Just a Man remix by Jori Hulkkonen and lyrics to all the songs.

Ty Roxy Music CD is fiction saturated by time, the past and the future. A pattern of feeling where the self is projected. 音楽 (Music) is a sign you fill with your meaning, you. Tytti Roto operates in many Helsinki-based underground and indie groups such as Kissa, Tamara Luonto, Ghost World & Plastic Tones.

Channeling the disco high life and dance music of the 80’s and early 90’s with a modern bedroom take on the sound of the era. The debut album 音楽 (Music) is a narrative of failure and obsession.

Faithful to the concept of a conventional pop song the lyrics are mostly about the difficulties and deadlocks of human relationships. Music is forgiveness. Music is connection.

Critical encouragement arrived through exploring the features of laptop freeware and cheap vintage synthesisers. Once more, the lofi-aesthetic indicates experimentation and creating new forms from the technical restrictions. Turning the lack of resources into sound, combining total control and total freedom.

Ty Roxy is grateful to share the same initials with Todd Rundgren and she stays forever devoted to the original (im)material girl Madonna.

TY ROXY MUSIC – REVIEWS

“If Roto’s first band, Plastic Tones, was an updated version of a new wave band that emerged in the wake of Blondie’s success. With Ty Roxy, they offer a 1920s interpretation of Bobby Orlando, a post-disco solo artist from the same era whose name went unrecognised.

Sonically, it’s a lo-fi take on Madonna and Cyndi Lauper’s 80s dance-pop, reminiscent of Ariel Pink’s chillwave interpretations of pop music’s golden age. The album also serves strong vibes reminiscent of The Knife, Moloko, and OMD with a touch of Laura Branigan (Shoreline).

I particularly enjoy the “explosions” in the song “True Colours” and the fact that Roto has made his music in English, which allows for a focus on the vocals as an instrument among others. The standout tracks on the album are the disco songs “Just A Man” and “Science Fiction,” as well as the closing ballad, “Clown Face.” – Soundi / Jari Mäkelä
