Agnes is the new single from Ty Roxy who took the Finnish experimental music scene by storm in 2021 with her debut album titled 音楽 (Music). Ty Roxy is the alter ego of Tytti Roto who operates in many Helsinki-based underground and indie groups such as Kissa, Tamara Luonto, Modem & Rosettes. At the 2022 Indieco Awards Tytti received an honourable mention by Radio Helsinki.
While the debut album was recorded and played entirely by Roto herself it is now time to hear new sounds recorded with a whole band. The new group entity of Ty Roxy consists of Tytti Roto on vocals and synthesizer, Ville Valavuo on guitar, Henna Hietamäki on backing vocals, Rosita Ahola on bass and Onni Nieminen on drums. Roto and Valavuo have recorded and produced the song together. The band will also play future live concerts with this same line up.
Agnes is a song about growing up and confused identities. It is a coming-of-age film disguised as horror, or the other way around. Or, the moment from Ingmar Bergman’s Persona where the faces of two women are combined into one – beautiful and horrifying at the same time. Dreamy ethereal pop that spirals to a nightmare.
The single will be released on Bandcamp, Spotify and all digital platforms on 28th April 2023 by Fonal Records.
